I want to lose weight but ________!

Wednesday, April 01, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer

Fill in the blank and there you have ME! I want to lose weight but I'm a picky eater. I want to lose weight but I don't have the time. I want to lose weight but I don't live near a gym. I want to lose weight but I could go on & on with reasons. So here's my question. What works for you? What is simple & will be easy to follow? I want to lose weight because I've outgrown everything in my closet and now I'm too frugal to buy more clothes. (I blame the fact that I learned how to save money using coupons. Now I find it hard to pay retail and the clearance rack doesn't stock my size, LOL) I seriously am a picky eater and have a tendancy to graze while I'm at the house. Anyways, I've seen a few things floating around for different diet stuff but never paid any mind to them. Like the Bally Fitness. Gyms may be great for some people but, I live 30 minutes from town. Then there is the Jenny Craig. I've never joined a program like this but I just see myself leaving half the food in the bowl because I'm so picky. And then you see the diet pills. I'm on the fence with this because it's the easiest to do but is it really the best.

So, that's what I'm thinking in a nutshell. Just alot of fill in the blank reasons why I'm not dieting right now and how I want to be losing weight and I'm not. Just looking at alot of options that are out there that I'm not taking advantage of.

So, again. What works for you? What is simple & will be easy to follow?

Wow, you sound EXACTLY like me!!! I :::just::: allowed myself to buy some decent spring/summer shirts at walmart.com and that's cause they were on clearance with free shipping to my local Walmart.

I told myself I would start some kind of diet/workout plan TODAY but um...not doing that well, lol. I graze all day long. Luckily, since I stopped dining out (cause I won't eat out w/o a coupon!) I lost 3 pounds. Hey, at least it's moving in the right direction!

Have you ever heard of fitday.com? It's an online calorie counter. I think it's the best way to watch what you eat so you can balance your daily calorie intake.

I know how to use it, I just don't. I need some serious motivation, I don't like being as chunky as I am right now. :(

I hope someone can offer you some great suggestions! Good luck!!

I so fit into your statements too! I have tried Weight Watchers but fell off the wagon because I let myself have the excuse that holidays were coming and I wouldn't have the time to get to the meetings (this was before Thanksgiving). I haven't rejoined since. I have tried to stay with the points that they gave me then but I find myself forget to count or not caring. I also only find myself motivated for 1-2 months at a time.

I'll be watching to see what others say and see what you end up choosing.

yep...I hear ya, sister. But with dedication and some small changes I could live with as a lifestyle, I've managed to shave off 35lbs. since Jan. 08. I know many people who could kill themselves at the gym, cut out all fun food, and be skinny but angry, and I refuse to do that.
Here are some things that have worked for me:

-switch to the next size down plate in your cabinet. Plate looks full, so you don't feel deprived, but you've gotten a more true serving size

-fill 1/2 the plate with veggies. Then break the other side into a meat portion and a pasta/rice/potato portion.

-have a glass of Metamucil or other fiber thing about 15 minutes before dinner. Really. It will help fill you up.

-use a website to track your intake, as previously suggested. It makes you MUCH more aware of what you put in your mouth and accountable. And then if you want the ice cream sandwich you can figure out where you need to make other adjustments.

-have something yummy (but small) every day. I keep dark chocolate in my fridge and I break off a couple of squares. Right now it's Easter jelly beans. But it keeps me from going off the deep end and eating the whole BAG of jelly beans.

    Sorry--endless post. Good luck!!
