Reader Success: Tanya shares her score this week

Thursday, August 27, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer

I have a new reader who did an amazing job saving money this week and wanted to share her success.

I’ll have to quote her since she totally made me laugh!

082709 Tonya H

Wanted to show you what I got for $34 from Kroger, Food Lion and CVS this AM.

The Cottonelle, 20 double rolls was on clearance for $5.99 plus I had $5 ECB as well as a q.

There are 8 lbs of chicken boobies there too! LOL

Take Care,
Tanya H

Amazing job Tanya, and thanks for making me laugh!  Too cute!

Kroger Shopping: Spent $53.49 & saved 66%

Thursday, May 28, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer

Reminder for anyone in the Knoxville TN area that wants to meet at the Fountain City library for money saving tips on Saving Money at the Grocery Store then click here to read more about the when and where!

image

My total was $159.43 and I paid $53.49 after coupons and catalinas.  Overall savings of 66%.  Not bad!

This is a little high but I had my son with me and he slipped in 1/2 dozen peaches which came to $5 alone!  He’s been sick lately so I caved and bought the peaches and the Chips for him since he’s been so good.  My family should be stocked up pretty good on Hot Dogs, Pizza and Popsicles for the summer, LOL!

You can find the matchups for my purchase here but remember that the sale on most stuff ends Saturday.

Buying meat on clearance saves big $$! $64 to be exact.

image I am usually a night shopper but since hubby is trucking over the road I’ve had to start lurking into the stores during the day.  Oh my gosh!  I almost fell over my buggy at the meat markdowns that I saw before my eyes!

My goal for meat purchases is less than $2/lb and this purchase averaged out to $1.53/lb.  Pretty cool deal. :)

Now I have 30lbs of meat.  The tags totaled up to $99.24.  Dum, de, dum.  I only paid $46.04.  So, 54% saved!

Let’s just say that I’ll be cooking all morning to get this stuff in the freezer.  I always cook meat I buy on clearance before freezing it so that it doesn’t spoil while it thaws out in the fridge.  Plus it saves time cooking dinners which I really love.

You’re Good at Couponing When Your Balance is ZERO! Right?

Sunday, March 15, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer

031409 WalgreensI think I am officially good at my couponing hobby!

My receipt showed an awesome ZERO DOLLAR balance due!  Whoot!

I ran to Walgreens last night to grab the Glade deal before the new week started.  I always scour the clearance and I found two boxes of hair dye marked way below my coupon value.  Score!

I was in a hurry and Mimi needed sippy cups so I just grabbed them since I’d have overage.  But guess what, I was still negative when my favorite Manager was ringing me out so I had to throw some Twix on the table!

031409 Walgreens ReceiptAnd dum de dum…ZERO balance!  What!  Can you see the receipt?  Zero dollars with a total savings of $36.56!  Har har!

This is about the only Walgreens I never have coupon problems at unlike some of the grumps I run into.  And why is she my favorite manager?  She loves seeing me cash out my deals.  She and I hit it off one night and I told her about my secrets and got her interested in couponing.

It had been awhile since I’ve been there on her shift and we had the chance to get caught up last night.  She’s been doing a little couponing in her own store but hasn’t ventured into the next door Kroger. What?

Girl, we’re gonna have to take a coupon field trip!  You need to email me your schedule so I can work something out and we’ll go Wag’n and Krogering.

I Have To Share This…Shopping With My Girlfriends

Thursday, March 12, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer

I just spent the day with two of my girlfriends I’ve known since high school and we had so much fun!  What did us three girls do when we got together?  Went shopping of course!

And I’m not talking about walking around the mall shopping like high school  girlfriends would do together…we went Krogering!  LOL!  Boy how things have changed since high school.

I’ve been answering questions for my coupon newbie girlfriends and helping them out as much as I could but my girlies needed groceries and I got to be the coupon teacher in the grocery store.

In other words, they were seeing me in action getting stuff they actually needed.  We did pretty good, around 60-70% savings between the two.  Success I think - hook, line and sinker!

I can’t wait to do some more grocery shopping with my buddies that we may make this a weekly shopping adventure!  And it’s not because one of them has a Durango that puts my little Saturn to shame.  That wouldn’t be the reason at all.  ~SMILE~

Food City vs. Kroger – MY Store Preference

Thursday, February 26, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer

I have three of the major grocery chains near me to do my grocery shopping: Food Lion, Food City and Kroger.

We have one Food Lion and it is out of my way so it doesn’t appeal to me logistically.  As far as Food City and Kroger they are practically around the corner from each other in each end of town that I drive so those are both would be easy for me to get to.

There are other bloggers out there that have ad matchups for Kroger and Food Lion but I noticed I never saw anything for Food City.  I checked the forums at BeCentsAble, HotCouponWorld, and AFullCup and there wasn’t much being said about Food City if anything at all.  Hmm…

I used to shop at Food City years ago and my mom still shops Food City.  So, here’s what I did.

I decided I was going to Food City to scout some deals so I could be the one to blog about them.  Yeah right!  I even drove to the big New store on the edge of town.  Disappointment.  OK, maybe I’ve lived in the Kroger land of doubles for too long or maybe it just wasn’t a good sale week.  Maybe it was just all the RED!  I don’t know but I didn’t find much.

I was even excited about going in because it had been so long…and boy had things had changed.  Apparently Food City has this new See Red, Save Green marketing campaign – Everywhere in the store!  You know what I mean?  Red, Red, Red!

There are all these RED sale tags stuck everywhere then a few white ones…it was so visually distracting.  This wasn’t the way I remembered Food City and it made me hurry to get out of the store.  I wanted something clean.  Not the opposite of dirty clean but the easy on my eyes clean.  Exit – front door.

So, I left the store with nothing.  No deals, no groceries, nothing.

Now, I’m not trying to say Food City isn’t a great store.  My mom shops there and she loves it.  Maybe Food City is the best chain you have in your town.  Whatever.  I’m just saying that I love my beloved Kroger even more now!  Back to Krogering for me!

How about you?  What’s your favorite store?  What store do you avoid?

Kroger Shopping: 2/2

Monday, February 02, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer

Cost Breakdown: 55 items for $108.17 retail at $49.63 after saving or 54%020209 Kroger

OK, so I’m running out of room for Free Toilet paper and .50cent snacks.  Oh well, I have plenty of other healthy items stockpiled that I can spend our grocery money stockpiling and donation items.

I had my daughter in tow with my mother today as I’m having car troubles so I didn’t scout any deals and just picked up some of the Daytona 500 sale items.

Here is a quick look at what I bought (price reflects after sales & coupons):

18 Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks @ .41/box (After coupon, sale, & catalina I received)

10 Chef Boyardee @ .35/ea (I thought this price rocked!)

4 Manwich @ .20/ea (Great price but we don’t cook alot of it)

4 Ragu @ .78/ea (Should have got these at Wags the other day but no car)

2 Country Crock @ 1.69/ea (That’s half off and it freezes)

1 Kroger Salad Dressing @ .29 (Mimi’s favorite that we needed)

1 Bread Flour @ 2.69 (For my new bread maker the kids are lovin’)

6 Cottonelle @ 0.00 (For you can never have too much TP for FREE)

Then, since I had my daughter in tow here is what she bought for us:

2 Minute Maid Ojs (I want my oranggeeee juice.  Ok, Mimi)

1 box Chocolate Chip Granola Bars (Bubba wants these, OK.  Sure Mimi)

2 boxes of Ice cream (Ice-eee Cream!  I want, I want.  Well, OK Mimi)

So, you see, my daughter shopping with me doesn’t help the budget.

And love her heart I let her dress herself so she strutted through Kroger like this.  With her black dress shoes and pink dress to her ankles and her snow white costume on top…with her heart sunglasses and dora snow hat.  Yeah, she was styling.  Didn’t have the camera and she left with my mom after I was dropped off so, just imagine it.

I have a Bread Machine! YEA!

Friday, January 30, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer

013009 Bread MachineI’m so excited!  I have a Bread Machine!

Yeah, me. The one who can barely cook.

Everyone talks about their homemade bread on their blogs and it sounds so yum so I decided to search for one.

I searched craigslist and found three.  One was like $60 – no.  The other was $40 – maybe.  Then, B had a bread machine included in a lot of stuff she was selling for $120.  I asked how much for just for the bread machine hoping she would sell separately and she did!  For $20.  I was sold!   Thanks B!

So, as you can tell from the pic (behind Mimi flashing her tongue) I am in the process of making some Honey Oat Bread!

I can’t wait for it to finish!  I’m so excited!

Check back later to see if I bomb something that I’m told is absolutely simple or if I’ll be turning into a Homemade Bread Mommie from now on.

You may also visit Becky at Nickels-N-Dimes or Marcy at Stretching a Buck for more Kroger Mega Savings matchups.  I only listed most of what I bought but I think they matched up everything in the ad.

Kroger Shopping Trip 1/12

Tuesday, January 13, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer

Quick stop with my son to see if there were any meat on clearance.  There was!

011309 Kroger

Two of the large 5lbs rolls of beef was on clearance for $4 from $8.99.

Now, I don’t like the consistency of the roll meat and avoid it if possible.

BUT…DID YOU KNOW KROGER WILL GRIND MEAT FOR YOU? ANYTHING!

Just think, they slice your cheese and ham and stuff.  Why not grind stuff for you too?

I bought 3 packs of 3ish/lbs of Ground Chuck at $2.49/lb and had them grind it together with the 10lbs of roll Ground Beef.

Now I have Beef/Chuck hamburger meat at $1.25/lb which is well under my $2/lb limit so I am happy.  So, I will be spending tomorrow cooking, patting, rolling, and whatever else to freeze my behemoth amount of meat.

I got almost 20 lbs of hamburger meat for $25!  WOW!  That’s $1.25/lb.

We cooked some for dinner tonight and as I pulled it from the package it felt so nice.  OK, I’m not a dork but it really did have a slightly different feel – loose and airy.  I will be asking for this personal service alot more often.

Deals & Scenarios for 10/26-11/1

I'm going to confess...I am a newbie so I peruse other sites.  I am getting better and scoring my own deals the best I can.

Like the fact I can say "I" saw I could use my $2 Kaboom coupon to get a refill during Kmart Doubles for only .69 (regular $4.69).  So, see, I'm learning!

And, I am good with math so learning the CVS & Walgreens game wasn't a problem to figure out but...I'm still taking the lazy approach putting my deals together and give credit to those who have put hard work on their blogs already.

So, here is how my upcoming week looks:

A few things at CVS:

Nothing really at Walgreens

Kmart will be a separate post on Sunday when they start allowing double coupons here.

Hello to some people I met today

Just wanted to say a quick hello to a few people I met today. I hope you make it here to see how I get my deals and check the other blogs that I visit too. You'll get as addicted as me! Walmart: I met a nice woman in the pet aisle and helped her out with a few extra coupons that I had. I always like helping save people money. I also told her about the moneymaker Glade deal at Kroger which excited her a bit. Then I headed off to Kroger for my groceries. [They have way better prices than Walmart.] Anyways... Kroger Meat area: I asked the meat department guy what the best deals were for the week to stay under my $2/lb budget and hit the jackpot twice. He showed me the Tyson boneless chicken breast which is normally $4.79/lb was on sale for I think $1.89/lb. And, he stocked me up for Thanksgiving on two Honeysuckle turkeys for only $.99/lb! Awesome! He was so nice and I can't wait to see him next week when I go back to get my boneless porkchops for $1.99/lb that he told me about. Kroger Shopping Aisle: I also met a sweet lady that complemented my coupon binder. (Just so everyone knows I have the two sided three ring binder with baseball cards.) I said thanks and noticed she was coupon shopping too which I thought was great! I love seeing people save money with Q's. I told her about my site and encouraged her to also do CVS too if she likes saving money. I can't say enough about CVS other than you really need to do your research on them and start racking up on their deals. And I really mean racking up! Kroger Checkout: My cashier was so happy to scan all my coupons. I like it when I get the cashiers that don't huff as the two ladies behind me to my surprise didn't huff either but looked on curiously with smiles. After my fourtieth coupon the cashier holds up the coupons to put in her register and says "Now here is a lady who knows how to shop"! :)Thanks! ;) And as my bill went from $225 down to $107 the two women in the back said how awesome they thought it was. So, now I'm blushing about quadruple fold from all the compliments. Today was an amazing day and I not only saved alot of money but met some WONDERFUL people who shared the excitement of all my savings. OK, I feel better now that I shared that with everyone! I'll be back later to update on some steals I made at the stores.
