You CAN Save Money on Newspaper Delivery

Monday, April 27, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer

Discount Newspapers Cat in paper I’m going to be flat out honest and tell you that I have eight newspapers delivered.  What?  Eight papers?  No, I’m not crazy.  Yes, I save money.  Let me explain my reasoning and why you should subscribe too.

In order to save money using coupons you have to get the newspaper.  Now, how you get the newspaper is entirely up to you.  You and only you can decide what is the best decision for your family & what works.

Getting inserts from friends: Not a bad deal since the expense doesn’t fall on you but can be sporadic.

Buying newspaper at store: Sometimes inserts are missing or coupons are slightly different.

So, being that friends can sometimes be unreliable and if I’m not feeling perky enough to drive out to the store to buy my inserts is the reason I suggest getting the newspaper delivered at a discount.

In my case, my paper is $2.00 at the store.  So, $2.00 x 52 weeks = $104.00  Plus, factor in gas expense!  That makes buying the paper even more costly.  Why would you want to go to all that trouble?

Then look at newspaper delivery:  I personally saved almost 75% by subscribing to the weekend edition!  So, Correct me if I’m wrong but who wouldn’t want to buy FOUR Sunday papers for the same price as ONE and get the rest of the weekend edition for FREE practically.

Why eight subscriptions?  Well, there is five in my family and a few extra for help in stockpiling.

Asking A Manufacturer for Mailer Coupons

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer

I used several mailer coupons on my last trip so I thought I’d throw out a quick tip about how I get manufacturer coupons in the mail.

Leave a comment on the manufacturer’s website asking for them.

Simple enough, right?  I randomly pick a brand that we eat and go the manufacturer’s website and let them know how much I like their product.  Majority of the time I get a response back that they are placing coupons in the mail.

How often do I do this?  Just whenever.  I made two requests this week.  See below:

My kids love Foster Farm corn dogs and they are about $5/box.  We don’t eat these very often but they are nice to have for a quick fix.  Their website has printable coupons for their other products but not for the corn dogs.  So, I left a comment and stating so and asked for some coupons.  Here’s their response…

Foster Farms Thank you for taking the time to contact our Foster Farms Consumer Affairs Department.  We do have discount coupons available for some of our products, and I will be glad to place some in the mail for you.

My kids also love the Pepperidge Farm goldfish.  These often go on sale for around $1 which is my buying price.  Target had an awesome deal this week using a Target printable coupon to get them for .66.  There was also supposed to be a Manufacturer printable on the Pepperidge Farm website to bring them down to .16!  Awesome deal but I was unable to print the coupon by the time I read about the coupon so I left a comment on their website about my printing problem.  Here’s their response…

Pepperidge FarmWe received your message and appreciate your taking the time to contact Pepperidge Farm about our Pepperidge Farm promotion.

We appreciate your interest in our Pepperidge Farm products, and hope you will accept the complimentary coupon we have sent to you via the mail, which you will receive within 7-10 days.

So, see a minute or two of my time netted me some coupons in the mail that I know I will be using during future shopping trips.  These are products that we use and alot of times the manufacturer will send really great $off coupons and sometimes FREE coupons, which I love!

What are you waiting for?  Pick something in your pantry and let the manufacturer know how much you love it.  Be truthful too!

Reader Question: How Do I Maximize My Coupons?

Sunday, February 15, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer

coupons2 This reader comment is from Stacy:

I have been cutting coupons for years and don't get big deals out of them.” –email

Well, to get the best deals out of coupons you have to use them at the right time.  Here is what I ask myself when shopping with my coupons.

What is the item, the size and the regular price?  This is important to ensure you are using a coupon to meet the manufacturer requirements as stated on the coupon.

What is the sale price?  Check the hangtag to see how much $x off it is from the regular price.  Can you tell if the sale price at it’s lowest?  Keep a price book if needed.

When does the sale end?  Will the sale only be lasting for a week or a number of weeks?  You need to know how long you have to take advantage of the offer whether over several weeks or if you need to stockpile the most immediately before it ends.

What sale promotion does the store have?  If the store has a promotion to buy for example 10 items & get $3.00 off your order instantly then that equates to an additional savings of $.30 per item.  Matching a sale promotion with a coupon will maximize your coupon even more.

What coupon do I have?  Do you have coupons for the items on sale?  If not and you think it is a good price, write it down and check for an internet printable when you go home.  There are many sites that have a compiled list of printables like in my sidebar or you can always go to the manufacturer website to check.

Will the coupon double or triple?  This is the best tool for getting items at their lowest price when they are on sale.  Many times a doubled or tripled coupon will net really cheap or FREE stuff.

What is my end price?  Will your coupon equate to the best deal?  Can you buy the generic cheaper?  Don’t just buy something because you have a coupon if you can buy the generic cheaper.  Many times the name brand with a coupon will be better but sometimes not so keep an eye out.

How many items will I buy at this price?  Stockpile items while they are at their lowest price.  Building up your pantry this way will allow you to take advantage of more savings in the future.

These are the questions I ask myself so that I maximize my savings as much as possible.

Being Married to a Coupon Queen

I read this and laughed til my sides hurt because this is exactly what my poor husband and family feel like when I talk to them.  Couponing takes on a whole new second language in the household and some people never pick it up.

Head over to Blissfully Domestic and read the guest post by LittleMissKnowItAll.

You’ll really enjoy reading this and if you’re new to using coupon’s you WILL be talking like this soon!  I promise.

Special note to the Knoxville/Helenwood area:

If anyone is interested in having a couponing lunch date with me then email me for some date possibilities.

Coupon Funny: I took my coupon-phobic mother to Kroger today and saved her 77% off her bill.  I have her convinced to buy one newspaper, not two, one to try to start using coupons!  But I have to hand over all Green Giant coupons I ever get again!  LOL!
