Arriving from the Ultimate Blog Party? Welcome to Coupon Mommie!
I know you’re probably busy jumping from blog to blog checking out all the bloggers on the McLinky so I’ll keep it short and sweet. My name is Jennifer and I love to save money! I live in the hills of East Tennessee with my husband and three children ages 9, 6 (my boys) and 3 (my girl). Yes, my hands are full.
I began to use coupons as a small way to save money for my family while living on unemployment and my eyes were opened to a whole new world of saving. Honestly, I’m not sure how we would have survived the last half of that year without coupons! I’ve been writing about freebies and coupons since then on my blog as a resource for others who want to learn how to use coupons effectively and make their dollars stretch.
I hope you enjoy what you find here on Coupon Mommie and would love for you to hang around. There are buttons in the sidebar to sign up as a Google Friend and you can also keep up via email or RSS feeds.
I look forward to chatting with all of you and getting to know you. Thanks for stopping by!
A Time to Give: A small jester to relieve pain
Thursday, September 24, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer
This post is linked to the weekly Meme hosted by Jennifer at Saving and Giving. The Meme is not about bragging but a way for everyone to share their ideas to others about sharing, giving and being generous.
I live in the same place that I grew up when I was a child and so do my girlfriends that I had in high school. This means alot to me because we were not only close growing up but we are able to still remain close.
One benefit from living in the same area is that we can meet up and go shopping each week when we have free time on our hands. This past weekend we decided to hit up Kroger’s Mega Sale together. Yea! Out of the three of us there was only one major shopper. IAfter dropping off most of the groceries at the first house we drove over to the second house to watch a movie.
While watching the movie I noticed that one of my friends was in obvious discomfort so I offered a backrub to her. She willingly accepted and I did my best to rub until my hands felt like they were going to fall off. When I was finished she said Thank You and told me how I helped relieve her neck and back muscles that had been giving her grief. I could also tell she enjoyed it because she was not only moving better but she even looked like she felt better.
No one likes to be in pain and sometimes it takes the hands of another person to help relieve that pain. A massage may seem like a small thing to offer to someone but the impact of my small jester was huge to her. She was able to avoid taking medication, while was a plus, and enjoy the movie we were watching without being in pain.
This may not be the kind of jester that you can offer to alot of people but I hope it helps you think of ways that you can touch someone else’s life in a kind way. Whether it be a simple phone call, a plate of food, or another way that you can help someone out in need.

A little about my 3 labor stories on Labor Day…
Monday, September 07, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer
I found this Labor Day meme at Three Ladies and a Dad blog. I thought it would be fun to participate.
First off, I have three children who all have nicknames from where one of the other kids couldn’t pronounce their siblings name. Don’t laugh!
Bubba ~ 8 year old boy.
Lala ~ 5 year old boy.
Mimi ~ 3 year old girly girl.
We sound so hick. Seriously. Mommie, Daddy, Bubba, Lala, and Mimi. How much more country and hick can you sound! But when the kids say the nicknames they sound cute so they stuck…
Anywho, on to the Meme:
How long were your labors?
- Bubba: 7am – 5am. Fun part was mostly after midnight.
- Lala: 7am – 11pm. About like the first just a little faster.
- Mimi: 7am – 8pm. Nothing really happened until just after 7pm though.
How did you know you were in labor?
- Bubba: I was induced one week early for breathing complications.
- Lala: I was finally induced after going OVER two weeks past my due date. I was not a happy pregnant lady but my doc did not want to induce me since he thought I might go natural. He was wrong.
- Mimi: I was induced one week early for begging entire time I was pregnant not to go full term.
Where did you deliver?
- Bubba: Hospital U where my OB worked. Hospital U also has “student” doctors.
- Lala: Hospital B closer to my house. Loved the birthing rooms at this hospital alot better!
- Mimi: Hospital B closer to my house. Went with Hospital B again since the rooms were nicer.
Drugs?
- Bubba: I wanted to give birth natural which I found out was really hard to do when you are induced with pitocin. I went from 1cm & 0 contractions to bam bam bam contractions…that was harder than I thought and really drained my energy. I made it until midnight before finally agreeing to an epidural.
- Lala: Went with epidural so I could have more energy than last time.
- Mimi: Third times a charm. Pitocin & epidural seemed like a standard procedure at this point.
C-section?
- Bubba: Nope. After not making enough progress pushing on my own the doctor gave me the option of a c-section or using a vacuum to help pull the baby. I chose vacuum. I pushed, he pulled. I pushed, he pulled. On the third push/pull the doctor said “Last chance or we’ll have to have an emergency c-section”. I heard those words and didn’t stop pushing until I saw my son’s head! Thank you God for giving me the strength that I needed to avoid being cut! He was 9lbs 4oz & a week early!
- Lala: Nope. Yet another difficult labor of pushing on my own. My nurse turned me onto my side in a last ditch effort to bring the baby on down and it worked like a charm. He was only 10 1/2 lbs! Yeah, no wonder!
- Mimi: Nah! You kidding? After a 10 1/2 lb kid this delivery was a piece of cake. 3 pushes & she was out!
Who delivered?
- Bubba: A student doctor which I actually liked.
- Lala: My OB that was astonished at how large my baby was because he wouldn’t induce me. Grrr…
- Mimi: My nurse almost did but the doctor made it just in time.
Play along if you want!
Leave me some comments telling me where to find your meme or if you don’t have a blog then share your story in the comment section. I’d love to hear how your Labor Day went!

A Time to Give: Paying it forward and loving it

Knowing how someone in need feels gives you a whole new outlook on things because you can understand and relate to their situation entirely. Having been on the receiving end of donations before I truly believe that what comes around goes around which is why try to donate as much as I can by using coupons & stockpiling.
One of the most rewarding things about my stockpile is that at anytime I can fill bags up full of stuff to donate to someone in need. After phoning a friend one evening and noticing that her phone was disconnected that is just what I did recently. Why? Because I know that when money is tight that the phone is one of the first things you can let go. I also know that the other thing shaved or ignored is the food and personal care budget.
I greeted my friend with bags of items that I picked up for free with my coupons and she responded like I had given her a handful of cash. The bags were filled with many things like in the picture below. Toothpaste, dental floss, body wash, bandaids, neosporin, chapstick, deodorant and more. And the plus side was that she actually needed several of the items in the bags which brought added warmth to my heart.
Here's some ideas for where you may be able to donate:
–Churches
–Food Banks
–Nursing Homes
–Senior Citizen Centers
–Homeless shelters
–Salvation Army
–American Red Cross
–Friends and family
–Gift Baskets
* The picture is of a housewarming basket. I didn’t actually photograph the donation in this post.
Coupons have really changed my life entirely and my whole outlook on donating, recycling and many more things. I never knew something as simple as a $.25 coupon could make me a better person but it has. I have received help in the past and truly appreciated it and I plan to pay it forward for as long a I can.
