My best shopping tip is to leave the husband at home. Lol. Mine is worse than most kids. He'll readily admit that he grabs what he wants without regard to the shopping list or budget. Our son is a wonderful help when shopping however. He's always gone with me and helped and now as a teen he can take my list and do it for me. I was ill for a while and since he knew what brands, prices etc I look for, he did the shopping for me.

My best tip is to purge and/or organize once a week. Not only will you not get stuck trying to use an expired coupon, but you will really become familiar with the coupons you have. That way when there is an unexpected sale or clearence you will know if you have a coupon to make the deal even sweeter

Here's a tip from newbie experience: Today I had a list of a few specific items I wanted to dash in and grab at Kroger before the sale ended Sat plus a couple staples we needed. I almost walked into the store with just a handful of those coupons, but something said to go back and snag my newly put-together binder. And I'm glad I did! I found I had coupons for stuff that was STILL on sale from the last week or other items that were unadvertised. Best of all, most of the "extras" I grabbed ended up being FREE or close to it (abt $40 in groceries for $12). Unless I'm dashing in/out for a single gal of milk, that binder isn't just sitting on my passenger seat EVER again!

My best tip is to be organized when you walk into the store! I always make a list and stick to the list, and put all the coupons I am going to use in a white envelope. That way when I am checking out I am completely organized and that helps the cashiers!!!

Staying organized is my number one tip, which definitely helps if the kids stay home:) Also, I always carry a calculator so I know how much I'm spending(or saving:) Thanks!

My best "error preventing" tip is to calculate how much you'll be spending BEFORE you go shopping. That way, when everything is done at the register, if it is a different total than what I thought it was going to be, I know something didn't work right, and I can fix it right then (rather than waiting in line at customer service, or having to make another trip back to the store). Thanks for a great website with useful information!!

My best coupon shopping tip is to shop after midnight! I shop on Friday nights after work. There are fewer people out, but you also get to know the cashier's working & this makes your coupon process go so much smoother! There are fewer cashier's, but people are usually only buying minimal things!

My best shopping tip? Count those coupons BEFORE you hand them to the cashier. When you have lots of "stuff" and then LOTS of coupons, you will inevidently run into a cashier that "skips" a coupon or two by mistake. I always make sure I know how many coupons I'm handing over and can quickly count them on my receipt as I'm walking out of the store.

Geez, only 8 comments so far and I have already got some great new ideas! Love your site!
My tip would be to make sure to alternate the internet-printed coupons with clipped ones so nothing sticks together and gets missed by the cashier. Usually I try to watch, but most of the time I have at least one of my 3 young boys with me and it is difficult.

I also subscribe and have another tip. I make my list by aisle and put my coupons, even the maybes, in that order to make sure I'm maximizing the deals. Sometimes I will put coupons in there for items I am getting low on, but can still wait a week or two to purchase. I check the shelf price once I see the coupon/list and if it is a good deal, I grab it, otherwise I re-file for next week's trip or for the next store. And then it reminds me to try again, thus giving me the chance to get the best price possible instead of just grabbing it to be done with it at full price-I know I won't forget because it is already there.

Have an envelope for every store, count them so you know they have not skipped any and #1 Don't hand them ALL coupons together, they get overwhelmed! and may miss some...

I separate my coupons by store w/ a paper clip, putting the store savings card on top, so I know where I plan to use them.

    Tip:
I create Word documents on my computer and copy and paste the deals into the document for each store I'm going to shop at with the coupon match-ups. Saves me the time of writing a list of what's on sale.

I'm sort of a newbie, so have enjoyed reading the other posts to get ideas! My tip is to familiarize myself with the standard prices for items we buy frequently so it's easier to spot a really good sale or coupon.

    Thanks!

My best couponing tip is to save every coupon. When I first started I would only keep what I thought that I would buy and then later I would have got something for free or overage if I had clipped that coupon!! It would make me so angry. Thanks for you website - I love it for the Kroger match-ups and the pictures :)

I go through my coupon organizer every sunday and throw out any expired coupons.

I check the sunday paper to see which local grocery store has what i really need on sale for the cheapest price, and try to match up my coupons with what is already on sale in that store so i dont have to make trips to different stores

I found if I only go shopping every two weeks, I save a lot of money. I decided to make do with whats in the pantry until my next shopping day.

    Coupons are my weakness.
I make a shopping list and pull all the coupons I might need for the things on my list. Then I don't have to search for the specific coupons in my folder.

My coupon tip is if you buy your newspaper from a store or gas station to ask them if they will let you pay half price for your extras, take the coupons out and let them keep the paper so they still get credit from the vendor. My Racetrac manager let me do this last night, so I didn't have 3 extra papers hanging around and I didn't have to pay full price for a paper just for the coupons.

My coupon tip is to organize your coupons before you get to the register. This helps so that you are not going through a bunch of coupons when you get to the register which holds up the line and possibly get the cashier mad.

I agree with the first post above, I generally leave my husband at home anymore. One, he's too distracting. Two, he's the spender of the family and I always spend more money when I'm with him LOL

My tip is to always take a list matching your coupons with the sales ads.

I try to get as organized as possible. Going through the ads and sorting out coupons for each store. I make seperate lists for each store and hand my coupons over one at a time so that there is NO DOUBT that they all got scanned.

Each week I look at the fliers and read the blogs with coupon matchups. Then I go through my coupons and put them in piles...CVS, WAGS, Krogers, etc. I put each pile in an envelope. On the outside of the envelope I list which store the coupons are for and then I list all the deals on the outside of the enveope. Then, when I go into a store I have the envelope with coupons inside and a list on the outside so I'll remember what I want to buy. Thanks. Teresa

I cut and paste a list into Excel with all my Cellfire, Shortcuts, PGe-saver and Upromise coupons. When I buy an item I cross it off the list, then double check to see if it was discounted on my receipt. I follow-up immediately with customer service if a discount wasn't taken and usually they are quick to make up for the error.

I'm a busy student, so my coupon advice to myself is to know when the time is more valuable than whatever item I might have gotten a little cheaper by making a trip to the store. Even if it's a really good deal, it won't matter that much in the long run if I miss it.

I don't do much couponing...but I want to try more...I mainly price match at Wal-Mart..I spend a lot of time looking at ads and finding out what is on sale and then price matching...if I combined that with coupons I could save A TON!

organization is key. Your coupons have to be organized somehow, either by brand, by expiration date, by type of product etc. I really try to buy only when on sale. If I have a coupon also, yay!!
