Who spends $709 per month on groceries?

Tuesday, July 07, 2009 Hand-posted by Jennifer

I was testing out my new SwagBucks search engine and ran across an interesting tidbit of info:

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the average American family of four spends $8,513 per year on groceries -- that's $709 per month!

WHAT?!  I may be buying over $709 per month on groceries now but I do not pay that much out of my pocket with the help of coupons, LOL.  But seriously…Who spends that much without coupons?

Thinking back to before my couponing habit, when I thought I was frugal, I can remember spending around $300-$400 for my family of five but not even close to $700 which included my household purchases too.

Guess I was more frugal before than I realized but I’m a whole lot happier with how frugal I am now!

By the way, I’m already up to 7 SwagBucks points.  I earned 3 for signing up.  2 for the CASHISKING code.  And 2 more from searching.  I am liking this SwagBucks thing already.  It’s so easy!  Sign up & earn with me!

That is just crazy! No wonder so many people are in debt- how can you pay that kind of money, plus pay all your other bills? Wow!

I just got back from the grocery store and spent my standard $55 (I go every 2 weeks). Before coupons, I probably spent around $400 for our family of 4.

I spend $600 a month for all household items for our family of
    7. I used to consistently go over budget and never feel we had enough. Then a year ago I started shopping smart and now we have an abundance-enough to share. So I don't neccessarily spend less now-just get a whole lot more!

I used to spend $400 for just me and the hubby, but that included eating out occasionally too!

Your swag bucks will pile up quickly! Just do a search or two every day--enjoy!

Thank you for posting this. Like you, I am in shock. Before I started couponing, I spent $80-100 a week on groeceries. Now we are down to $25-30. How can you spend over $700 a month? Crazy!
