This is for my Knoxville, TN locals ~

An article featured in May 3rd’s News Sentinel announces that they will begin accepting EBT cards so that people have access to local foods they otherwise might not be able to purchase.  Read more here.

The Market Square Farmers’ Market is in downtown Knoxville at Market Square.  Contact 865-405-3135.  The hours of operation from May 2-Nov 21 are Saturdays from 9am-2pm and Wednesdays from 11am-2pm.

We LOVE the downtown farmers market! We were bummed we weren't able to make it yesterday before it closed, and usually are there every Saturday to shop. Our family of 3 (daughter age 3) buys mostly local and organic vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, and dairy and the farmers markets help us to do it and stay on a budget. We have a share in a CSA, and usually split it with a friend. This year we are taking the entire share and plan to put up more vegetables for the off season. Many times you can buy foods at the market that were grown organically for much cheaper than you can buy conventional produce at the grocery store. Chaching!

I hope to check it out sometime this year! I think it's awesome that they're starting to accept EBT so that they can keep more customers buying local because I'm sure there are some people that don't buy local because of that reason. Times are hard right now and you have to go where your resources allow you to go.
